Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Presents Tourism Sector Recovery Strategy at ASEAN Forum

NUSADAILY.COM – JAKARTA – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy/Head of The Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, outlined various strategies for restoring Indonesia’s tourism sector affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in a forum of Ministers of Tourism and Secretaries-General of ASEAN.

In The 24th Meeting of Asean Tourism Ministers held online, Thursday (4/2), Sandiaga said that his party launched the Indonesia Care program as an effort to restore the tourism sector and the country’s creative economy.

“This program is a form of our commitment to implement CHSE (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability) health protocols in tourist destinations in Indonesia,” Sandiaga said in an official statement.

In addition to the implementation of the “Indonesia Care” program, Sandiaga continued, it also disburses tourism grants for tourism actors and creative economies affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We designed this program to help hotel, restaurant and tourist destinations managers stay afloat in this time of crisis,” he said.

In addition, Sandiaga also said that it collaborates with relevant parties such as tourism organizations and the ASEAN Tourism Committee (ATCM) to prepare the tourism industry of Southeast Asian countries. It aims to produce quality tourism products, improve service standards, and improve the human resources of the perpetrators.

According to him, this is done as an effort to prepare yourself when entering the adaptation period of new habits and increase the confidence of tourists to travel to Indonesia and other ASEAN member countries.

“We should not doubt that tourism is one of the main keys to economic growth and community welfare. History has also proven that tourism is a sector that can survive in times of crisis. Therefore, let’s work together to revive the tourism sector for the welfare of our society,” said Sandiaga.

ATF Host 2023

Sandiaga explained the various efforts made by Indonesia in preparing to become the Leader of ASEAN to replace Brunei Darussalam in 2023. One of them is by hosting the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2023 which will be held in Yogyakarta.

“I am pleased to announce that the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 will be held in one of the five super priority destinations in Indonesia, Borobudur. Precisely in Yogyakarta. We hope that the implementation of ATF 2023 can be the momentum of national and regional tourism recovery,” he said.

This was welcomed by Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, Thong Khon. Thong Khon, who chaired the meeting, said there needed to be strong collaboration between ASEAN countries to restore asean tourism sector affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In addition, there needs to be collaboration between international organizations and relevant stakeholders to achieve an inclusive, sustainable and strong ASEAN tourism sector for better socioeconomic growth of asean communities. As well as maintaining cultural diversity and biodiversity in the ASEAN region,” said Thong Khon. (mic)
