NUSADAILY.COMĀ – JAKARTA – The COVID-19 Handling Task Force still needs an additional 1,000 medical volunteers due to the increasing daily cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia.

“Given the continued high increase in cases, and the readiness of some hospitals, especially referral hospitals and self-isolation facilities, the needs of volunteers, especially medical volunteers, both doctors and nurses and others, are still quite high,” said COVID-19 Handling Task Force Volunteer Team Coordinator Andre Rahadian in a talk about strategies against COVID-19 that was broadcast online and monitored in Jakarta on Friday.

He said that currently COVID-19 Emergency Hospital Wisma Atlet Kemayoran Jakarta still needs about 200 medical volunteers due to shortages of health workers as covid-19 positive cases increase in Jakarta.

In addition to Jakarta, said Andre, other areas that need a lot of medical personnel are West Java and Central Java. West Java and Central Java provinces are the two regions with the highest daily cases of COVID-19 after DKI Jakarta.

In addition to medical personnel for handling COVID-19 positive patients, the Task Force also still needs volunteers who will be assigned to conduct close contact tracking of COVID-19 patients. The volunteers will be placed in primary health facilities or health centers.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic that has been going on for 10 months, Andre argues, there needs to be additional health workers to rotate previous volunteers who have worked since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to him, the rotation of tasks of the volunteers needs to be done to maintain the physical and psychic health of volunteers so as not to fall on conditions that increase the risk of contracting COVID-19. Although, said Andre, over the past 10 months the team has learned a lot and has been doing rotational tasks on volunteers who have been working for 10 months.

Some of the medical personnel that are still needed are general practitioners, pulmonary specialists, anesthesiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and public health workers. (sak/ant)
