NUSADAILY.COM – JAKARTA – Germany will impose travel restrictions from Brazil, The United Kingdom, Portugal, and South Africa, countries where new variants of the more contagious coronavirus are widely circulated.
This was conveyed in a draft text of government regulations seen by Reuters.
“In addition to the existing COVID-19 test and quarantine rules, temporary travel restrictions will be imposed on transportation with passengers from countries designated as regions with new variants of the coronavirus,” the regulation said as reported by Reuters.
German health officials are increasingly worried that new variants of the coronavirus, which are becoming more contagious and spreading faster, will quickly bring the country’s health care system to an overload.
The governments of other EU member states are considering taking similar measures with Germany, according to the German government’s draft regulatory document. (mel)
