DIMPA UMM Holds “Boat Race Challenge” 2020

NUSADAILY.COM-MALANG-Division of Nature Lover Students (Dimpa) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) intensively introduces heavy current sports (rafting), especially for young people through the “Boat Race Challenge” 2020 competition.

The Chairperson of UMM Boat Race Challenge, Yusril Khasib Anvasa in Malang, on Thursday, said that adventure sports in the last few years had experienced quite rapid development, even the interest of young people was very high.

“However, it is unfortunate because this sport is only known by a handful of people. We hope that with this competition we can introduce this strong current sport to be more widely known, “Yusril said.

According to Yusril, adventure sport is increasingly developing because it is based on a sense of awareness about the richness of the diverse river waters and protecting the environment and as a way to test dexterity and adrenaline.

He continued, the world of white water rafting in Indonesia is undergoing development. Evidenced by the many rafting communities and special rafting divisions in nature lovers organizations and communities.

Besides, the Indonesian Rafting Federation (FAJI) has also been formed which has participated in developing the Indonesian rafting world.

The national-level rafting competition that will be held in the lake area of ​​UMM Campus III is specifically for high school students of the same level. For registration from 13 January to 13 March 2020.

The competition with the theme “Arungi Soul Young” was divided into three categories, namely male, female and mixed categories. While the implementation of the competition on 17-18 April 2020.

Yusril admitted that besides introducing the swift sports, the competition also aimed to build the growth of the rafting tourism industry. Through these activities are expected to spur the interest of various community groups to enjoy white water rafting.

He explained that in organizing the third Boat Race 2018, Dimpa UMM only held it at Malang Raya level. At that time the event was attended by 32 teams from the elements of Nature Lover Students (SISPALA), Nature Lover Students (MAPALA) and the Nature Lover Organization (OPA).

“For this year, we are targeting hundreds of participants (teams) from all over Indonesia. Therefore, the scope of our competition will be expanded to become a national level, “he said.

In October 2019, the lake in front of the joint lecture building (GKB) I was also used for the National Unmanned Fast Ship Contest (KKCTBN). UMM was specifically entrusted by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs, the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education as the host of this prestigious event at the national level.
