NUSADAILY.COM-JAKARTA – Manchester City debuted in Group C of the Champions League by beating Porto 3-1 at the Etihad, Wednesday local time (Thursday WIB), but received bad news about Fernandinho who was again injured.
Fernandinho came on in the 85th minute to replace Rodri Hernandez. However, nine minutes of grazing the 35-year-old midfielder was pulled out again to be replaced by John Stones because of an injury.
Manager Pep Guardiola admits Fernandinho’s injury this time will make him absent again for a long time.
“Bad news, he got injured in the same place as before. He will be absent for a long time, “said Guardiola in post-match comments reported on the official UEFA website.
Apart from Fernandinho’s injury, Guardiola said he was satisfied with City’s success in winning the full three points against Porto.
Coming from behind due to Luis Diaz’s goal, City managed to get back to victory through Sergio Aguero’s penalty, Ilkay Gundogan’s free kick and Ferran Torres’ closing goal.
“Ten-15 minutes from the end of the first half and at the start of the second half we did well,” he said of Manchester City’s debut.
“This is a good start for us and next is to France to win a second victory,” concluded Guardiola.
City lead the Group C standings with a full three points collection and will travel to West Ham United in the Premier League this weekend, before leaving for France to visit Marseille next week. (Cak)
