NUSADAILY.COM -JAKARTA- AS Roma advanced to the round of 16 of the Europa League when PSV Eindhoven were eliminated by Olympiakos despite winning the second leg of the round of 32 which took place early Friday morning.

Roma, who host Braga at the Stadio Olimpico in Italy, earned a 3-1 win over the Portuguese side to claim a 5-1 aggregate win, UEFA’s official website notes.

Edin Dzeko, who was recently stripped of the Roma captaincy, took the Italian capital team to the lead in the 23rd minute by grabbing a throw-in from Stephan El Shaarawy’s unstoppable shot by goalkeeper Tiago Sa.

Lorenzo Pellegrini wasted a chance to double Roma’s lead in the 72nd minute after his penalty was dissipated, but two minutes later he paid for his mistake by sending a pass that Carles Perez completed to give his team a 2-0 lead over Braga.

Bryan Cristante awarded Braga a consolation goal in the 87th minute when he scored an own goal, but Borja Mayoral completed Roma’s 3-1 victory a minute into injury time with a close-range header from Leonardo Spinazzola’s pass.

In another match that took place simultaneously at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven, Netherlands, hosts PSV were faced with the task of reversing the aggregate after losing 2–4 to Olympiakos in the first leg a week ago.

Eran Zahavi scored twice to take PSV to a 2-0 lead before going down with a header and his free-kick. The score was enough to make PSV qualify for the round of 16 armed with the aggressiveness of the away goal.

However, two minutes before the break Olympiakos managed to score a reply through Ahmed Hassan who grabbed the ball vomiting from Youssef El-Arabi’s shot.

The score was 1–2 until the break, ensuring Olypiakos qualified for the round of 16 with a 5–4 aggregate win over PSV.

In the other match, Dynamo Kiev secured a 1–0 win over Club Brugge on a visit to the Jan Breydel Stadium, Belgium, thanks to Vitalii Buyalskyi’s late goal to escape with a 2–1 aggregate score.

Meanwhile, Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb completed their 3–2 first leg win by beating Krasnodar 1–0 at the Maksimir Stadium.

Mislav Orsic’s 31st-minute solo goal solidified a 4-2 aggregate lead as Zagreb continued their move into the round of 16. (sak/ant)
