NUSADAILY.COM – LONDON – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta feels his squad is starting to gain confidence and that is one factor in their improved performance.
The Gunners are on a positive trend after victories over Chelsea and Brighton, which kept them out of the relegation zone.
They also just had a convincing 4-0 win over West Brom at The Hawtorns on Sunday.
There were concerns that the match could be cancelled due to heavy snow at the Hawthorns, but it has subsided to allow the match to continue.
Kieren Tierney opened arsenal’s goal tap with a superb solo strike in the 23rd minute, with Bukayo Saka doubling the lead five minutes into the second half.
Alexandre Lacazette scored twice in quick succession in the 60th and 64th minutes to secure the win, with his goal ensuring Arsenal scored four away goals in the league for the first time in two years.
“It was a convincing win,” Arteta was quoted as saying by BT Sport. “To win three games over Christmas in the English Premier League is not easy.”
“In a phase when the weather is better and the conditions are a little bit easier, I feel like we’re playing some great football.”
“In the end we had to deal with some moments and conditions.”
“The first two goals, the first action with Kieran was outstanding, the second with the combination game was fantastic as well,” added the former Manchester City assistant coach from Spain.
“Clean sheet, it’s twice in a row now, and it gives us a platform to win games.””
“We looked more of a threat, and more creative and our attacking game was much better today.””
Arsenal are now six points adrift of third place in the Premier League table, despite being 11th and Arteta is very happy with the way his team are playing.
“I’m very happy we were able to reach the target we had,” Arteta said. “The standings look very different.”(sak/ant)
