NUSADAILY.COM – JAKARTA – The Tunisian suspect in Thursday’s attack, which killed three people in the southern French city of Nice, was not included in the list of suspected militias by Tunisian police before leaving the country in September, according to court officials.
Brahim Aouissaoui left Tunisia on September 14 and arrived in the city of Nice on Wednesday, said officer Mohsen Dali.
Tunisia began investigating the case of Aouissaoui, who was arrested by French police after the attack, said Dali.
The 21-year-old is a resident of the village of Sidi Omar Bouhajla near Kairouan but currently lives in Sfax. Police are currently interrogating his family there, according to Tunisian security sources.
Sfax, the main port about 130 km from the small Italian island of Lampedusa, is the main departure point for Tunisian citizens seeking to make illegal and dangerous crossings into Europe.
French police sources said Aouissaoui was not known by French intelligence agencies. (int1)
