NUSADAILY.COM – JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) strongly condemned the actions of the perpetrators of the blast in front of the Cathedral Church in Makassar, South Sulawesi, which occurred Sunday morning.
“MUI strongly condemns the events (explosions) this morning that have caused fear in the community and have caused fatalities,” MUI Vice Chairman K.H. Anwar Abbas said in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to him, the actions of the perpetrators can not be tolerated because it is very inhumane and contrary to the values of the teachings of any religion.
It also urged the National Police to act quickly to catch the perpetrators of the blast.
“MUI asked the authorities to find and arrest the perpetrators and dismantle the motives of this unprovoked act,” he said.
On Sunday morning, there was an explosion in front of the Cathedral Church, Kajaolalido Street, Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
The explosion occurred while churchgoers were praying at the church.
The incident is suspected to have caused fatalities. A number of injured victims were immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.
It is not yet known where the source of the explosion came from. Until now there has been no official comment from the Police Department regarding the chronology of the unfortunate event. (eky)
