NUSADAILY.COM – JAKARTA – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed the key to the food estate development program is the availability of water for irrigation, along with agricultural technology.
“The synergy of irrigation and agricultural infrastructure planning conducted between the Ministry of PUPR and the Ministry aims to develop a modern and integrated food estate from upstream to downstream,” said Minister Basuki in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In supporting agricultural irrigation at the Food Estate in Central Sumba Regency, the Ministry of PUPR through the River Region Hall (BWS) Nusa Tenggara II, Directorate General of Water Resources built a drill well with a capacity of 6 liters / second and embung with a capacity of 850,000 cubic meters.
Drill wells are built as many as 7 units with a drilling depth of 57-70 meters. Each well uses solar cell power with a distance between the drill well point to the dividing channel as far as 1.5 km.
From 7 drill wells with a capacity of 50.59 liters / second it can meet the irrigation needs of agricultural land covering an area of 50.59 hectares. As for embung will add a service area of 200 hectares.
Previously President Joko Widodo ordered the addition of reservoirs and embung in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to address the problem of water needs.
Based on data from the Public Works Office of NTT province, the number of embung in NTT is 1,125 embung from the needs of 4,000 embung to overcome water needs.
Furthermore, the Ministry of PUPR is also completing the Napun Gete Dam and Temef Dam after completing the construction of two other dams namely Raknamo and Rotiklot.
In addition to the addition of embung and dams, the President also requested that the Ministry of Agriculture to help the shortage of agricultural machine tools, especially tractors. (lal)
