Dozens of Illegal Gold Miners Buried by Landslide in Parigi Moutong, 5 Died

NUSADAILY.COM – PARIGI – Dozens of illegal gold miners in Sinaa Village, Buranga Village, Ampibabo District, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) were reportedly hit by an avalanche while conducting mining activities.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (24/2) night, when the miners were doing activities at the gold mine site without permission. Thus the press release of the Department of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Parigi Moutong Regency.

In the press release, it has not been able to confirm the exact number of victims buried by the landslide and their condition.

Heavy equipment was evacuating, and the victims who had been evacuated had been rushed to the local public health service center (puskesmas) for medical treatment.

“One by one the victims were evacuated from the landslide material hoard using excavators,” said Arifin, one of the staff of ampibabo sub-district government, while at the mine site.

Until Thursday (25/2) early morning, there are still many victims buried by landslide material, and reported the number of victims who have been evacuated is approximately 11 people. Five of them died and six survived.

The evacuation of the victims is still ongoing. Until this news is broadcast there has been no official confirmation from the local police.

Police chief and dprd chairman Parigi Moutong was reported to have been at the scene, but could not be reached for further information on the matter. (eky)
