NUSADAILY.COM-JAKARTA- A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck the Aegean Sea on Friday evening. Its tremors destroyed almost all of western Turkey.
Buildings along the coastline were reported to have suffered damage. Residents in and around Izmir, Turkey scrambled out of the building looking for shelter.
At least 20 buildings were destroyed in Izmir, the mayor told CNN Turkey.
Photos circulating on social media show a wrecked car that was crushed by rubble. Meanwhile, TV broadcasts showed people trying to dig up the rubble, looking for survivors.
Apart from Izmir, Bornova and Bayrakli are also affected areas. The earthquake shaking destroyed several local buildings, Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter.
“Rescuers continue to carry out screening and interventions in the field, but there have been no reports of injured or dead victims in cities affected by the earthquake,” he said. (sak / ant)
