Tjokroaminoto led SI from 1914 until his death on December 17, 1934.

Tjokroaminoto was also a teacher for figures who would become very influential, such as Soekarno, who had boarded the house, and Semaoen, Musso, and Maridjan Kartosoewirjo.

So, it is no exaggeration if Tjokroaminoto can be called the father of the Indonesian nation.

H.O.S.’s Lifespan Tjokroaminoto

Cokroaminoto’s father was the assistant of regent

Biru Blood was born in Bakur, Madiun, East Java, on August 16, 1882. His father, R.M. Tjokroamiseno, is a wedana or assistant to the Regent.

While the grandfather, R.M. Duke of Tjokronegoro, was once the Regent of Ponorogo.

Graduated from Opleiding School voor Inlandsche Ambtenaren (OSVIA) in Magelang. OSVIA is a school for prospective servants of the Dutch East Indies colonial government.

After graduating from OSVIA, Tjokroaminoto worked for an administrative staff unit in Ngawi.

From SDI to SI At the suggestion of Tjokroaminoto, Haji Samanhoedi changed the name Sarekat Dagang Islam (SDI) to Sarekat Islam (SI).

Tjokroaminoto himself was a member of SI Surabaya who later became Branch Manager.

In the first SI Congress on March 25, 1913 in Surakarta, Tjokroaminoto was appointed deputy chairman of the CSI (Centraal Sarekat Islam) accompanying Hadji Samanhoedi as Chairman of the CSI based in Solo.

Tjokroaminoto was elected as Chairman of CSI in the second congress on 19-20 April 1914 in Yogyakarta, displacing Samanhoedi.

The SI head office was moved from Surakarta to Surabaya. In the first year of Tjokroaminoto’s leadership, SI’s official membership was recorded at 400,000.

Action to Defend Islam Early February 1918

Tjokroaminoto led the Prophet Mohammad’s Kandjeng Army (TKNM) in Surabaya and organized an Islamic defense action in response to an article in Djawi Hiswara magazine deemed insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

That year, the SI mass numbered 450 thousand people. In 1919, as a result of this action, SI members swelled to 2.5 million people. (Ric / aka)
